“When I Grow Up” Returns to Karratha: Inspiring the Next Generation of Pilbara Talent

Fenner Conveyors was proud to once again partner with the National Association of Women in Operations (NAWO) to host the second annual “When I Grow Up” event in Karratha last week.

Building on the success of the 2024 edition, this year’s event saw great engagement from local students, who came along to explore career pathways with a diverse range of Pilbara-based businesses.

The initiative, part of NAWO’s broader commitment to gender equity and career education in regional Australia, aims to connect young people with real-world insights into the industries shaping their communities. For Fenner Conveyors, it’s an opportunity to showcase the exciting opportunities available in the resources and manufacturing sectors, and to support the development of future talent in the Pilbara.

Held in a vibrant and interactive format, the evening featured hands-on activities, career conversations, and networking opportunities with professionals from across the region. Students had the chance to speak directly with representatives from a wide range of organisations, gaining valuable exposure to roles in mining, operations, engineering, logistics, and more.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the locally-based businesses who supported the event and helped make it a success: Monadelphous, Woodside Energy, Joyce Krane, Pilbara Kimberley University, Yara Australia, Water Corporation, Svitzer, Yurra Group, Westug, Auriga, KBSS, Pilbara Traffic Management, and Pilbara Rail Maintenance (PRM).

The energy and enthusiasm from students and presenters alike was a clear sign that initiatives like “When I Grow Up” are making a meaningful impact. We’re already looking forward to returning in 2026 to continue building connections and inspiring future careers in the Pilbara.

See you next year!
