CPS Rollers - Manufactured with CBH Technology

Download the Case Study

The CPS Composite Bearing Housing (CBH) is the key design feature of CPS rollers. It was introduced in 2003 and has been continuously improved to meet a wide variety of customer requirements and improve roller life.

Traditionally, conveyor rollers are made entirely from steel, including the bearing housing. The cheapest way to manufacture these usually results in a weld seam along the shoulder of the roller, which is a strong but hard arrangement. This often causes belt damage through a “pizza cutter”-style failure when the roller reaches its end of life. Conveyor operators have altered their standards over the years to try and minimize this possibility. However, CPS’ CBH technology eliminates it entirely.

The Solution

CPS’ Composite Bearing Housings are Australian made at our facility in Welshpool, WA. With our own manufacturing facility, we can make alterations as required to suit project or alternative customer needs with a very rapid turnaround time and excellent quality control. The housings are robotically match-machined to the shell preparation to ensure the fit meets our engineered requirements and the roller can meet its full design life. As a part of this process, the robot cell also fits the bearing to the housing and meters the correct quantity and type of grease required for the job into the seals.

Composite Bearing Housings have an added advantage of damping noise, allowing CPS rollers to be the quietest in the market–proven through testing. The composite housings also reduce roller rotating mass which can lessen the startup and stopping power requirements for long conveyors and provide an outright mass saving over traditional steel housing rollers. When combined with a CPS composite shell, all the previously mentioned advantages are amplified, though they can also be fitted to various metallic shells where needed.

CPS Composite Bearing Housings are also available in a Fire-Resistant Anti-Static material for underground coal or other safety critical applications.
