Pulley Refuribhsments for a Mineral Export Port Facility
Located in the north west region of Australia, a mineral export port facility in the Pilbara contracted the CPS Pulley Division to replace and refurbish its existing pulleys. After the CPS team evaluated the client’s pulleys, our Conveyor Pulley Strip and Assessment Report showed that the conveyor pulleys inspected needed replacement and repairs due to various signs of damages and wear.
The Challenge
CPS’s Conveyor Pulley Strip and Assessment Report showed a detailed analysis of the condition of the pulley components. It was found that several components needed replacements such as the lagging, bearing housing, bearings, adapter sleeve, lubrication, lock assembly, and the shaft, while the shell/end disc and auxiliary needed repairs.
The report indicated both bearing housings to have fretting corrosion and wear in bores. Both bearings had dirt contamination and seals had been damaged due to the contamination.
Furthermore, locking elements had corroded and had to be cut out of the shell. The report also found that the shaft showed measured wear at the bearing journals and the shaft at the locking elements showed excessive corrosion.
Due to the signs of damage, excessive corrosion, and irregular wear patterns seen during the assessment, CPS deemed the components were no longer usable and concluded that replacements were necessary. For other viable components such as the shell/end disc and auxiliary, refurbishment services were provided.
The Solution
After submitting an extensive Strip and Assessment Report together with a competitive quotation from the CPS Pulleys team, CPS received the purchase order from the client. The scope of the project included a new shaft, refurbished existing shell locking assemblies, new bearings, housing assemblies, as well as new lagging. The shell and end discs underwent sandblasting, undercoating, and painting to 250 microns. Enviro protection to shaft/shell was also applied and the existing transport frame was repaired.
The client’s pulley shells were lagged to protect the pulley face from wear and provide better belt traction. Applying the right lagging material is crucial to the performance of the pulley, life of the conveyor belting, and the reliability of the system.
CPS Pulley Division ensures top-quality and cost-effective refurbishment services by ensuring that every component is restored to its mint condition.
