Pulleys for Salt Operations

Download the Case Study

For many years, CPS has provided the Australian salt mining and processing industry with conveyor rollers and has extended its services to include additional supply and refurbishment work for a range of conveyor pulleys. One of CPS’s clients enlisted the company’s help for the supply of quality new and refurbished pulleys for their salt field operations.

The Challenge

Pulleys are among the essential components of any conveyor system. Although they’re designed to last, years of constant use may subject them to wear and tear and may cause potential damage if left neglected. Unmaintained pulleys may cause malfunctions, strange noises, vulnerability to abrasive damage and breakdowns, among many other potential issues.

On auditing the client’s pulleys, it was identified that the majority were not suitable for the harsh operating conditions and the spare pulleys they had in stock were not sufficiently protected from the elements.

Because of this, refurbishment services for the pulleys were required prior to installation.

The Solution

In the past two years, CPS has successfully provided new and refurbishment pulley services for the client, which has included 41 new and refurbished pulleys of all types. Since the launch of CPS’s Pulley Division in January 2018, the company has received numerous accolades from its clients for its high-quality services and excellent lead times.

Salt mining can be among the most demanding environments for mechanical rotating equipment which is why pulley manufacturing specifications should comprehensively account for salt mining’s aggressive nature of operations.

CPS Pulley’s refurbishment services include complete stripping down and cleaning of parts, a refurbishment vitality report, third-party non-destructive testing of shaft and shell, re-machining, re-lagging, and reassembly of the pulley with new locking elements, bearings, and assemblies.

CPS’s top-notch pulley refurbishment process is a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new pulleys. With the help of the CPS in-house engineering team, all pulleys for refurbishment will first be stripped down and analysed. The team then provides a detailed report outlining the condition of the pulley and the components that require replacement. For repairable pulleys, the cost could be as little as a third of a brand-new pulley.

“Since we’ve been engaging with CPS we’ve been impressed by the quality and consistency of their pulley refurbishment services. So much so, that we have engaged CPS repeatedly since, for both refurbishments and new pulley builds.” - CPS Client
