Yeloroll-HD Proven in Copper Mining Application in Peru

Download the Case Study

Lightweight Yeloroll HD still going strong and showing no signs of wear after 3 years in service.

Since 2021 CPS has been supplying Yeloroll HD rollers to a customer in southern Peru. Located at 4100 meters above sea level and operating in seasonal temperatures ranging from -7°C to 25°C, Yeloroll HD ultralight rollers have proven their excellent reliability and benefits for overland belts.

The Challenge

Steel rollers were in use for the loading area, project and repositioning rollers. In the return area, depending on the location, steel rollers and discs were being used. In specific loading zone areas material was adhering to the metal shells creating crowns, misaligning and generating vibration on the structure, in turn causing premature failures in the rollers.

The Solution

In the areas with material adherence issues CPS proposed a test with Yeloroll HD composite rollers. The proposal considered a 14 kg roller, reducing the weight compared to the steel roller by 44%, contributing to better safety/ergonomics and reducing change-out times.

Due to its unique formulation, the Yeloroll HD roller decreased the adherence of mineral to the mantle, reducing the creation of build-up, vibrations, extending the useful life of the bearing and increasing the reliability of the roller.

The Results

After 3 years of continuous operation a sample set of Yeloroll rollers were disassembled to inspect their performance over the period. We found the following:

  • Minimal mineral adhesion on composite mantle (less vibration).
  • zero millimetres of shell wear.
  • No ingress of fine material in the running-in area.
  • SKF bearings in excellent condition.

As part of our close relationship with both our distributor and customer, we will continue to evaluate improvements for all of their belts and monitor the new units installed in the return area with the objective of increasing reliability and reducing downtime due to roller failures.
