Fenner Conveyors Completes Complex Belt Changeout for 10 Year Old Wharf Conveyor System

A client of ours for 30 years running recently contacted Fenner Conveyors for a complex belt changeout, which presented logistical and manufacturing challenges, all resolved on time and under budget.
The Challenge
The client requested a change-out for the second of 2 side-by-side 2.1 km jetty conveyors, each utilising 4.2 km of belting. Fenner Conveyors had previously been contacted 10 months prior to change-out the other belt, a more challenging project which prepared our team with learnings to apply to the second belt, which required operating in constrained and changing conditions.
Complicating this project was the requirement to, on short notice, retrofit 40 sensor loops into the belt prior to delivery to site, risking overrunning the scheduled shut down period.
With these requirements in mind, our team began devising a solution, reaching out to our other brand, Belle Banne Belt Handling.
The Solution
Across multiple night & day shifts, working around the clock, our Mackay refurbishment team were able to retrofit 40 sensor loops into 8 rolls of belting prior to delivery to site. This was completed ahead of schedule thanks to the experienced and effective operations of our fabrication team, allowing for the shutdown and belt changeout to go ahead as planned despite this disruption.
On-site, in coordination with Belle Banne, our team utilised a hydraulic power pack alongside a pony drive to drop pull the new belt into place, replacing the old one with the assistance of an existing Belle Banne belt winder on-site.
The changeout was completed over 12 shifts and was finished prior to the end of the shutdown. During the shutdown, our team also completed the replacement of a surge bin feed chute and belt for the same conveyor network.
The Results
This client has proudly and happily worked alongside Fenner Conveyors for over 30 years now. This longevity for our relationship has endured thanks to the consistency and reliability of both our products and services.
With the belt changeout completed and the shutdown coming to an end, the new belt replacement has entered immediate effective operation.
