No Belt Rips and Improved Wear in Lithium Crusher Circuit
In June 2025, a customer operating in the lithium mining sector at Pilgangoora made the decision to install cost-effective imported conveyor belting fitted with A-grade abrasion-resistant covers.
While these belts initially appeared to offer a budget-friendly solution, they quickly proved unsuitable for the demanding conditions of a crusher circuit handling large, sharp-edged rocks. During the first four weeks of wet commissioning, the site experienced multiple severe belt rips, some extending up to 80 metres in length.
These failures caused repeated unplanned shutdowns, leading to significant production losses and operational delays. The extent of the damage made on-site repairs difficult and time-consuming, forcing the customer to course new belts from any available stock on hand.
As inventory levels dwindled, the situation worsened, further impacting production and delaying the ramp-up phase of the customer’s expansion project.

Recognising the urgency of the issue, the customer reached out to our team for support. After conducting a thorough assessment of the site conditions and material characteristics, we recommended a more robust belt specification tailored to the application. Our proposed solution included conveyor belts equipped with ArmorShield covers for superior cut and gouge resistance, breaker fabrics to prevent longitudinal rips, and Crow’s Foot Weave (CFW) carcass for enhanced impact absorption and tear strength.
Since the installation of the new belts in January 2025, the site has reported zero incidents of belt rips, cuts, or visible wear on the top covers. The upgraded belts have consistently outperformed the previous imported option, delivering reliable performance under harsh conditions and restoring confidence in the site’s material handling system. This outcome not only stabilised production but also helped the customer get their expansion project back on track.
